We’ve found that setting alarms for everything and being early for everything is a good idea when traveling. There’s nothing worse than getting to the airport late and missing your flight when you’re supposed to be on your way to an amazing destination with the family. Sounds a bit crazy, but if you have small children, you know that getting out of the house and in the vehicle always takes longer thank going anywhere sans children. We were always at Little One’s preferred attractions in good time (and with time to spare) because I’m a quite obsessed with not being late or missing scheduled times. Make sure to set your alarms so that you leave EARLIER than what you anticipate to be ample time. * Set alarms to ensure you have ample time to get ready and out of the house the day of your travels. We’ve been witness to just how easy it is for someone to pickpocket a wallet out of a man’s back pocket or reach into a woman’s purse while she’s shopping! While this may not be the sexiest thing, consider carrying a money belt to keep important items like credit cards and cash close to you at all times. We also photocopy our important documents like passport and drivers’ license, and carry them in a separate bag from the originals. Something we do is leave our expensive and valuable jewelry at home. Travelers (especially those with young children) may not pay attention to cash or any valuables they are carrying with them. * Thieves and scam artists find tourists easy targets. As we all know, those dollars can add up! Packing our own food and beverages (and using our Tim Hortons Tims Card) help in saving a few dollars. 11 hour drives from Manitoulin Island to Montreal are the norm for us. * If you’re taking a road trip, pack your own snacks! We are no strangers to LONG road trips.

With March Break fast approaching, many parents have probably been trying to organize travel plans and vacations (or even staycations).
